Canvas is a material which is coated on the special fabric to prevent the oil ,gel, solvent ink, or water to permeate to another side of the fabric . This coating also called gesso , gesso is just the basic coating of the canvas , reagular a good quality canvas has triple times or four times coating at least , some high quality linen canvas even has 5 times coating .

Canvas can be divided into two kinds of its usage , one is for painting called artist painting canvas , another is used for printing called inkjet canvas .

The canvas for painting mainly choose cotton ,linen  or linen mixed fabric , because their structure is much textured.

A good quality canvas is selected from the raw material linen , this linen then weave to raw linen fabric and then coating on the surface of the raw fabric . 

Coating also called primer , has a lot of quality for your choice , in China many factories sell to some supermarket is very low quality , the canvas is crack , a good quality canvas no matter for painting or for printing will never crack .

For inkjet printing polyester is most used , because polyester is cheaper , also can reach the mass production quality need . Some customer doing high range market will also choose cotton or polycotton canvas for printing , this kind of canvas will used for the image which copy some famous painter’s paintings , it will look real .

If we donot tell you , I think you may not know the below photo is printed , it looks like some oil paintings , the fact just printing on the polyester canvas , if you print on the cotton canvas , the printing effect will be much better . For the factory or the company doing photo on canvas or photo to canvas service polyester is most choosed .

Its much cheaper than cotton . 

In fact polycotton will be better than 100% cotton , 100% cotton is easy to tear off when you stretching , polycotton has the texture of polycotton , also have the good feature of the polyester that its tension is very strong, you never worry about the issue of tear off when you stretching the canvas no matter by hand or by machine .

The  most advanced automatic canvas stretching machine in the market called Fast Frame 1200 plus which is made by Imaging Solutions . This machine is expensive but it works much faster and can save a lot of labor cost , because labor cost in America or European Countries is very expensive , but in China manily use hand stretching , because labor cost here is much cheaper , especially North of China .
